9. APPROVAL OF SETTLEMENTDescription This is a settlement agreement reached by the parties, subject to School Board approval, with respect to parcel 1 in the on-going eminent domain action in which the School Board is acquiring property for a school site in North Port.

APPROVAL OF LEASE AGREEMENT FOR A HOME WITHIN THE SITE FOR NORTH PORT'S SEVENTH ELEMENTARY SCHOOLDescription On October 5, 2010, the School Board authorized the acquisition of scores of contiguous, quarter-acre, residentially-zoned lots off Haberland Boulevard in North Port for a future elementary school. Most of the parcels were unimproved, and there were four occupied homes to be acquired. The home at 3464 Hobart Street was acquired through the eminent domain process, and the prior owner has vacated the dwelling. The district will now lease the home until the site needs to be cleared for school construction, or until repairs to the home make an earlier demolition the cost effective alternative. The other three homes have already been leased under similar terms.

The contract will be for a term of July 1, 2012 until June 30, 2013, for a maximum of $75,000. The contract will be used for on-site support services for all Activ technology investments and installs. Funding for this contract is part of the Department of Information Technology (9020) Operational Budget.

15. APPROVAL OF CONTRACT BETWEEN NCS PEARSON, INC. AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDADescription
The Department of Information Technology has negotiated a professional development contract with NCS Pearson, Inc. for school year 2012/13 for a maximum of $55,050.00. The renewal contract is for professional development for elementary school staff at all 24 of our elementary schools throughout the District for the Individualized Learning System (ILS), SuccessMaker. Funding for this contract is part of the Department of Information Technology (9020) Operational Budget.

33. APPROVAL OF THE VENICE HIGH SCHOOL RAIDER NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD TRIP TO THUNDER RIVER BSA CAMP, MOLENA, GEORGIA ON NOVEMBER 2, 2012 THROUGH NOVEMBER 4, 2012Description
Students competing in the Raider National Championship perform military type skills such as constructing one-rope bridges, foot races, team-work obstacle courses, and basic life saving. In additional to physical skills, students learn planning, organization, and unit cohesion by participating in this championship.
Recommendation
That the Venice high school Raider National Championship field trip to Thunder River BSA Camp in Molena, Georgia on November 2, 2012 through November 4, 2012 be approved.
EXPULSIONS
34. APPROVAL OF EXPULSION CASE NO. 12-267Description The student listed in Case No. 12-267, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for alternative school placement. On January 26, 2012, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 12-267, violated School Board Policy 5.32, Zero Tolerance(1)(L), Threat to School Board Employee and School Board Policy 5.34(1)(g), Disruptive Behavior to Educational Function of School. It is the recommendation of the Superintendent, that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until June 4, 2013.
Recommendation That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 12-267, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately for the entire 2012-2013 academic year.

51. APPROVAL OF THE CHARTER CONTRACT AMENDMENT BETWEEN ISLAND VILLAGE MONTESSORI CHARTER SCHOOL, INC. AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDADescription The Island Village Montessori Charter School intends to expand its grade levels to include 9th grade beginning in the 2012-2013 school year. Pursuant to Section 1002.331, Florida Statutes, the school is authorized to expand grade levels. The amendment to the charter contract submitted for approval specifies the terms and conditions to serve students in grades Kindergarten through 9th grade.

With the absence of Caroline Zucker, the vote was two AYE and two NAY. Attorney Art Hardy stated that Island Village Montessori has been designated by Florida Department of Education as a high performing charter school, and by state statue it is authorized to add a grade level. Since there will be a 9th grade starting this school year, the only issue is whether the School Board will amend the actual charter. He stated he will consult Robert's Rules of Order and make a recommendation regarding the ability to reconsider this motion at a future Board meeting.
